Raising Environmental Awareness: A Student-Led Initiative

My name is Kondwan, and I am currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in business administration at DMI University in Lilongwe. As part of our environmental science course, my classmates and I were tasked with an assignment that went beyond classroom learning; the assignment involved collection of data around our school area and transform our findings into meaningful awareness for others.

After collecting data, we proactively shared our insights with junior students on campus. The session was designed to highlight the importance of environmental responsibility, encouraging younger students to think critically about sustainability and their role in protecting the environment.

Our learning journey didn’t stop there. We extended our awareness campaign beyond the university by visiting Wakawaka Market, where we observed firsthand the environmental challenges faced in busy community spaces. We also climbed Bunda Mountain , an experience that not only connected us with nature but also reminded us of the urgent need to preserve such natural treasures for future generations.

This project was more than an academic exercise; it was an opportunity to practice leadership, community engagement, and advocacy. By combining research with action, we were able to inspire others while deepening our understanding of environmental stewardship.

At DMI University, we believe education should empower students to make a difference. This presentation and outreach experience reaffirmed that when knowledge meets action, real change begins.
